Timing Belts / Cambelts / Wet Belts

A timing belt, or cambelt as it’s often called, is a belt that runs the engine internals. Most manufacturers recommend having your cambelt replaced at anything between 40,000 and 140,000 miles or between 4 and 10 years. Each manufacturer is different and we can advise you on what is suitable for your vehicle. We always advise replacing timing belts at the manufacturer’s recommended intervals to ensure that your vehicle is running at its best.

Signs that you may need to replace your cambelt:

  • Ticking sound when you start the car – this can mean that your cambelt has stretched or worn
  • Your car won’t start – this can be because a broken cambelt is not allowing the engine to get going

If you experience either of these or if you haven’t had your cambelt replaced for a while, get in touch with the team at Mill Road Motors. Most manufacturers recommend having your cambelt replaced at anything between 40,000 and 100,000 miles or between 4 and 6 years. There is no definitive mileage or time period. If you are at all concerned about the condition of your cambelt, bring your car into our workshop in Christchurch, and we’ll check it out, report back and of course, we can replace it if required.

We have a large selection of vehicle-specific tools to carry out timing belt replacements to the highest standard. Including the correct VW digital timing tool which is required for most petrol engines past 2012. The timing kit (VAS 611 007) allows precise setting to within 0.1° to allow optimal performance and economy.

At Mill Road Motors, our affiliations with respected organisations like the RMI, IGA, The Motor Ombudsman and 1 TEC Auto Hub ensure we deliver services of the highest standard, staying up-to-date with the latest automotive technologies.
